Covid Memorial Challenge
Let Their Light Shine
Welcome to our project Page
The Covide Memorial Challenge began as a two week (14 days) commemoration to honor the lives that have been impacted by COVID-19. We called it the Covid Memorial Walk & Run (CMWR). After the event, we decided to leave the project open for anyone who would like to include the 5-series event into their personal journey.
Why 14 days?
We chose fourteen days in recognition of the fourteen day isolation period for a person who has been diagnosed with COIVD-19. The events run from March 21st to April 3rd, 2021 and coincides with the Cherry Blossom season. Each is a form of meditation through movement. They can be be celebratory, contemplative, nostalgic or whatever you need it to be. Each event is an opportunity for you to stand with someone, to stand for someone, or just a private space for you to connect your emotional journey through this trying period with a physical journey.
The Covid Memorial Challenge (and its precursor CMWR) is a commemoration for us who remain and for our loved ones who are no longer with us. The memorial is being built with the music that we share, the miles that we travel (running, walking, biking, by wheelchair etc), the causes that we support and the dreams that we help to bring into reality. With this memorial, we want to affirm the light that each life lost represents in our life by committing to positive action in their name. The theme of this project is "We carry their light," and since we are now the keepers of the legacy of our loved ones, each positive act in their name is an opportunity to let their light shine once more.

The entry fee to participate in the event is $20. Please send your documents to milewithyou@gmail.com.
The fees that are collected will be donated to one of our partner organizations below. Together, these organizations work to help their communities with housing, food, education, healthcare needs, and social justice concerns. Supporting their work is also a part of the memorial that we are building together to honor our loved ones. A small portion of the proceeds will also be used to provide a thank you gift to the artists whose work is featured in this project.
Merchandise:
You can purchase a T-shirt for the event separately at the following link https://teespring.com/stores/a-mile-with-you . We decided to separate the merchandise from the entry fee as a way to keep the entry fee relatively low. As with the entry fees, the funds that are raised from merchandise sale will go to the partner organizations to support their work in the community.
