SunRelays

"Elevating Leaders From Every Neighborhood"

SunRelays is a 24 hour global event to celebrate the people in our communities who make good happen, and an open invitation for you to become one of those people.

SunRelays is a network of events taking place in different places and in every time zone. Anyone who is committed to building strong, inclusive and healthy local communities can join our network and host an event in their own community.

Our Three Pillars

Building healthy communities starts with a focus personal wellbeing, and it requires the support of many minds, hearts and hands. Therefore, the first two pillars of SunRelays are:

Every local community exists as a part of a broader fabric, and this insight gives us our third pillar:

From the furthest point east to the furthest point west, the sun arrives each day to keep life moving in each community. SunRelays is an acknowledgment of this global connection, and a call  for us to work together a create a shared future in which we all can thrive.

The Why

Amid the devastating surge of the Delta wave of the Coronavirus in India in May 2021, I asked one of my friends to give me his sense of the longterm impact of the pandemic.  He answered with these words:

"I foresee a seismic shift in many growth and development indicators over the medium and long term. I fear millions being sent back into poverty, an uptick in crime, a setback in education parameters, and so much more! And this will be felt globally barring the OECD perhaps."  -Akshat Shah, May 2021

I believe that without action, this vision of the future is quite possible. However, it is not the future that neither I nor my friend wish to see.  I believe that many of you will agree with me that if Akshat's predictions come true, the world that we will have in the future will be far less hospitable for most of us.

The Future We Seek

This series captures the fact that the path out of poverty has gotten even harder following covid.

Nevertheless, I believe that people living in poverty continue to generate viable and creative solutions that can transform both their lives and our shared future. However, reduced access to important resources such as education, adequate healthcare, food security, mentoring and finance means that even a smaller number of these visionaries will get to develop their ideas into their full form.

We need to open new pathways out of poverty. We must build new partnerships. We must also reinforce the existing grass-roots organizations that are doing great work with the most affected populations.

The second and third panels show the predicted increased flow of people falling back into poverty in the years ahead, if we do nothing.

Sun Relays aims to gather a global community of people who can support each other in a collective drive to change this trajectory.
