Waiting with you

Waiting with you

I may not witness your tears

I may not keep pace with the rhythm of your heaving breaths

I cannot feel the rumbling earthquake that is separating the tectonic plates of your heart

I know that I cannot stand beside you, for now, to catch your crumbling shoulders or kneel beside you in prayer

And yet...

Even though I do not know the tune of your mourning song

And the pain of your loss seems but a whisper lost in the wind

Your private grief matters

And until such time as you can close this circle in person

Surrounded by those who did witness the beauty of this life that you have lost

I will hold this memory with you
